With 16 more deaths in the past 24 hours, the Covid toll of J&K has reached 222. All deaths were reported from Kashmir Valley.
As per official bulletin issued on Thursday evening, 490 new positive cases — 62 from the Jammu division and 428 from the Kashmir division — were reported today thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 12,156.
Moreover, 109 more patients have recovered and been discharged from various hospitals — 34 from the Jammu division and 75 from Kashmir Valley. Out of 12,156 positive cases, 5,488 are active cases. As many as 6,446 patients have recovered and 222 (18 in Jammu division and 204 in Kashmir) have died.
The official bulletin further said out of 4,81,452 test results available, 4,69,296 samples have tested negative till July 16.
Additionally, so far, 3,23,038 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance, which include 38,581 persons in home quarantine, including facilities operated by the government, 13 in hospital quarantine, 5,488 in hospital isolation and 43,875 under home surveillance. Besides, 2,34,859 persons have completed their surveillance period. Of the total 12,156 positive cases in J&K, 3,061 have been reported as travellers while 9,095 as others.
Meanwhile the ‘locked’ border district of Rajouri is emerging as the new Covid hotspot of J&K after Srinagar as 33 persons tested positive on Thursday.
Although the lockdown was reimposed in Rajouri on July 11 after a single-day highest spike of 51 cases, the cases continued to pour in from various parts of the district during the last week.
“As many as 33 persons, including a tehsildar and manager of a hotel, tested positive for the virus. Rest of the cases are from the ITBP(four), JKP(six), IRP(two), BSF(four), Health Official (three), from Red Zone Darhal & Sunderbani (one each). Others are travellers and contact cases. Further details will be shared,” the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Rajouri, Thakur Sher Singh, tweeted.
However, for the 10th successive day, Srinagar district recorded highest ever single-day spike. On Thursday 259 positive cases were reported from Srinagar district only.
